Having enjoyed your try-dive in the pool, it's time to start thinking about learning to scuba dive. If you live in Cardiff or the Glamorgan area of South Wales, the best way to get started is to join the Club.
Learn to Scuba Dive with Cardiff BSAC
Cardiff BSAC is a branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), and is totally committed to training divers the BSAC way.

BSAC training courses are recognized throughout the world, and many of the standard procedures used by divers today were first introduced by the British Sub-Aqua Club.

At Cardiff BSAC, Club Training Officer Steve Lloyd has a team of qualified instructors willing and able to help you progress through the BSAC training programme.

Our courses are designed to build confidence and self-reliance, whilst keeping safety uppermost. Diving skills are taught progressively in a friendly club atmosphere, permitting students to develop at their own individual rate, as each new experience is built upon step by step.

BSAC Ocean Diver

When you join Cardiff BSAC we will provide you with a BSAC Training Pack. This includes a copy of the Diving Manual, Ocean Diver Student Study Book and a Qualification Record Book.

You can then start training for your Ocean Diver certification, the BSAC entry level diving qualification. The Ocean Diver course consists of:
  • Seven theory lessons
  • A theory assessment
  • A basic swimming assessment
  • Five practical lessons in sheltered water - Usually a swimming pool if warm, clear, shallow water is not available.
  • Five sessions in open water
  • Minimum in water time of 120 minutes
Diving in the Red Sea with Cardiff BSAC When you have successfully completed the course and obtained your BSAC Ocean Diver qualification, you will be able to dive in a club environment up to a maximum depth of 20m.

Initially the Club can supply all the equipment you require, but as training progresses most club members choose to buy their own basic kit.

Scuba training at Cardiff BSAC is available to anyone over the age of 14 and medically fit, but parental approval is required for anyone under the age of 18 years.

For further information about training for a BSAC Ocean Diver qualification, please contact our Club Secretary, or come along to a pool training session.

But diver training at Cardiff BSAC doesn't stop at Ocean Diver.

Our instructors are dedicated to helping you improve your diving skills, and work towards your BSAC Sports diver qualification.
