Pool as ever, thence to The SandMartin. Please remember , if you need kit (or have asked for kit but cant make pool) to let me or Steve know
We were all looking forward to a dive weekends diving courtesy of Brian Dilly. Unfortunately some one broke Overdale, so Brian was boatless! The weather was holding, it was a lovely neaps weekend, what could possibly go wrong.
I volunteered to tow as Mark couldn't make it. After my lecture from Mark on what I should and shouldn't do , we set off into Friday rush hour. Being the most inexperienced tower I've met, I drove to the speed limit and was basically annoyed Steve all the way
to Milford. With a little bit of kafuffle, I managed to turn and park by the pub! So far so good.
Next morning and we all met up at Gelliswick, the early rain was gradually drifting away .
There had been a fair amount of discussion over the net the day before about the plan for the day. Fortunately good sense prevailed, given we had 2 waves and we kept it local. Low tide and a rookie reverser meant it took a little longer to launch, but we got
there. The first trip was out to the Dakotian. Brian proved his worth at target shooting, with a direct hit on the wreck. As we had seen recently the viz was pretty good, which let everyone have a good mooch round. Me and Steve found the rudder stock right
at the end of the dive. Sioni was so engrossed withhis dive, he didn't see me or Steve, Ben gave a friendly wave however.
Second wave saw Brian and Matt, Kas and Gareth taking their turn.
Second dive was the Behar, which had better viz again, with coils of cable, large prop shafts and much tangled wreckage. Lots of life, with wrasse, spider crabs etc. Gareth
had a bit a moment caused by entanglement in a lobster pot line, he dropped his weights, nearly braining Kas on the way down, Kas luckily retrieved one! A couple of lobsters later we were all back.
Sunday and blistering sunshine, and with the boat down to 4 we decided to try for Stack Rocks and Hen and Chicks. Unfortunately there was a car rally at Gelliswick, which meant a load of cars parked along the road. Steve didn't get what I was saying. He told
me to have a positive attitude to reversing. I was positive.....that I couldn't do it! Eventually he got the hint, stopped cooling off in the water and launched the rib. Beautiful weather, and with just the loss of Gareth’s hat we made it safely there. Viz
on both dives was good, lots of life, wrasse , huge spider crabs, dog fish, hermit crabs, lobbies and edible crabs!
On the plus side, we got to play with the boat and those in need clocked up some hours. Downside: Timescales at the weekend were too slow. We didn't get back to digs until 8 on Saturday and not home yesterday until after 10. Mainly down to inexperience with
towing, with the rib, and just generally not being quick enough. The yacht club was great given the public loos are now closed but they didn't open until 11am on Sunday morning, something to take into account!
And at least it wasn’t Cosmeston when Steve clocked a 1000 hours underwater!
Plymouth and Weymouth
Matt is organizing 2 trips
The Plymouth trip has 2 spaces left, and the Weymouth trip is now full, but if people would like to come then let Matt know and he can put them on the reserves. Also, there
is space on the Weymouth boat on the bank holiday Monday (27th August)… so if anyone wants to add an extra day then please let Matt know.
Plymouth would be the weekend of 21st-22nd July and will cost £175 for diving (hard boat for 12 people with Abyss Charters) and hotel accommodation. It is a neaps weekend
so viz will hopefully be good.

Weymouth would be 25th-26th August (bank holiday weekend). I propose we just stick to the two days and it will cost £220 for the weekend (diving and shared accommodation
at the Riviera Hotel). Hard boat for 10 people with Wey Chieftain. You can stay on for the Monday too if wanted but you’ll need to arrange your own accommodation. Just let me know if you want the extra day and I’ll let the skipper know.
