 Dive News

We Dived at Dawn!

Halloween - and some very scary things down at Cossie !! Only 4 eventually braved the early morning cold to check in a last dive for the Club of the Year Award. Mark – not known for his abilities as an early riser was a victim of a phone which had not automatically reset itself to GMT. When asked why he hadn’t realized when it was so dark, answered “How would I know how dark it was at 6.15 – I’m never up then!”  I found a use for the trident which I’d brought along as part of the props, it was great for hitching a lift - just hooked it onto Steve’s cylinders. Adrian for some reason enjoyed it so much he actually did more than the obligatory 15
minutes!!

Thanks to everyone who has helped me list all the dives for our effort as Dive Club of the Year!!

 Dive Show

It was nice to see old friends at the diver show, including Mike from Isle of Man, Peter Hambly from Furious (complete with Mark’s advertising CD on show) and Dave, dragging all would be commercial divers onto the stand when not running around looking for freebies! I think everyone had a good time and probably spent far too much money – especially in the bar – £3.50 a pint!!!!!!

Winter warmer November 8th & 9th

Margaret has confirmed that we are staying at the house If anyone requires addresses or directions either speak to me or got to the Skin Deep website – http://www.skindeepbandb.co.uk/map.htm address of the house is 6 St Anne’s road Weymouth DT4 9LW

Having checked the figures, the actual cost per head is £80. I may not make this Wednesday, so if you haven’t paid me the balance, please ensure that you have it for the weekend! I would guess that Ian would appreciate crispy cracklies as opposed to cheques!

We should be on Skin Deep which has a compressor, however believe Ian is going to charge for air.

Branch of the Year Award 2008

Now over – you can all relax- until next year……..

 AGM

Thanks to all those who attended the AGM – the minutes of the meeting will shortly be available on the website.

This year the Award for most Improved Divers didn’t go to new members, instead, in recognition of their effort in achieving Advanced Instructor, the award went jointly to Mark and Teresa!

Lectures

None this week due to a lack of a room!

For Sale

Rob is putting his dive kit up for sale  - see below for details:

KIT FOR SALE

 Drysuit - Otter Dryskin

Good condition, never had a leak. Tough blue and black membrane suit that should last forever with TLC. Newish neck seal and wrist in decent nick. Heavy Duty zip in good condition. Auto Dump (Apeks). New boots (size 10) fitted, done about 10 dives only. Comes with usual extras – bag, hose, wax, hood and Otter undersuit with booties. Will fit someone 6 foot plus and about 42-46 chest. Will chuck in a pair of nice and warm Beaver 5mm ‘titanium’ gloves £150 or near offer.

Regs – Apeks XTX40s + Uwatec Depth Timer + Suunto Single Pressure Gauge

Cracking regs in great condition. Two XTX40s both black on DS4 first stage (DIN fitting). Short and 1.5m hose set up. Again 10 dives only L. Uwatec Depth Timer – reliable piece of kit that has done the same amount of dives. Good for a beginner (who doesn’t have cash for a computer) or as a back up for more advanced diving. Suunto SPG, usual Suunto quality and reliability and a short hose to be clipped on BCD = no dragging over rocks, through slit etc. £275 ono.

 Fins

Mares Quattros. Great fins (ask Anne!) in black. Very few scratches. Give good power and control. Size L so will fit drysuited diver in around size 10 boots. £40

 BCD

Buddy Commando, size L. The ‘bulletproof’ BCD. Old style luminous for those who value safety over fashion! Never had any problems with it, plenty of lift. Will chuck in a goodie bag and small back up torch (I mean small, don’t get too excited!) and shears. £80 ono
